The Club has had a very successful season in 2008 although playing conditions because of the weather reduced the real enjoyment towards the end of the season. In what has been recorded as the seventh wettest summer of all time our three league and Sunday sides made the best of what sunshine did appear. Finishing mid table was more or less what was anticipated for the first and second elevens and the development of the third eleven was interrupted occasionally with availability problems. The club however fulfilled all fixtures home and away and completed an enjoyable tour to Cumbria in July. The development plans were put on hold for the proposed pavilion extension in anticipation of difficult times ahead for fund raising, nevertheless the club was able to invest in a new scorebox and at the same time carry out several ground improvements including the purchase of a new mower for the outfield plus a set of mobile covers which will be of enormous help for the 2009 season. It is also likely that practice facilities will be upgraded for next season. Senior indoor nets are planned at Trent Bridge and for the youth cricketers we have booked Sutton Bonington university campus from February onwards. Thrumpton Cricket Club continues to invest in a programme for youth cricketers and the Kwik and Youth sections are developing well to encourage children from the age of 5 to learn how to play the game. Any youngsters in the area are most welcome to come along and have qualified coaches give weekly tuition. However with more players reaching a ‘senior’ stage in their careers it is imperative that we continue to attract new experienced members. We play at one of the most beautiful grounds in the East Midlands within the Thrumpton Estate where the famous television series ‘Outside Edge’ was first filmed. There is a friendly and happy atmosphere as much attention is given to enjoying the privilege of talking about cricket as well as playing it. The social side of the club ensures that there are many enjoyable times in the winter as well as the summer... We welcome new members and if any cricketers arrive in the Nottingham area they are invited to contact any of the committee members listed on this website who will also be able to give further information on any aspect of the club Bill Alexander, Chairman. |
