Sunday morning saw the U13's side take on Wymeswold in the Leics & Rutland League at the Badger Set!

After a double defeat against a very strong Plumtree side last weekend the U13's hoped for a closer game against Wymeswold.

With several of the senior, more experienced, players missing debuts were given to KWIK cricketers Sam Towers and George Mayell.

Matthew North captained the side in the absence of Jack but lost the toss and Wymeswold had no hesitation in asking the Badgers to bat first.

Lewis Wales and Will Hennessey opened the batting but straight away Lewis was back in the pavillion after being run out for 1, trying to get a second run.

Jacob Taylor was in at 3 and built a nice little partnership with Will. The pair had moved the score onto 23 but then Jacob was also run out for just 4, making it 23 for 2.

Skipper Matt North came in at 4 and swiftly got on with things, looking to score runs quickly.

With only a further 4 runs on the board though Will was on his way back to the pavillion as he was caught out for 18.

Jacob Bates came in at 5 to help support Matt and the pair really started to get the scoreboard moving, picking up quick singles and with the skipper picking off the gaps, also finding the boundary.

With the score now 64 for 3 Matt finished his innings in style by hitting a 6 to retire on 31, a great knock from the skipper.

William Calthrop-Owen was in next but was tempted out of his crease by the Wymeswold spinner to be stumped for 0.

Chloe Towers then joined Jacob in the middle and started to put a little partnership together. The pair had put on 19 until Chloe was caught out for 8.

Ben Gill then came in and supported Jacob in the final few overs as Thrumpton pushed on to finish on 101 for 5 from their 20 overs. Jacob Bates finished on 23 not out and Ben Gill 4 not out.

Following a pretty quick turnaround, the Badgers took to the field to try and defend the total.

Matt North opened the bowling from the top end with plenty of pace and Chloe Towers came up the hill.

It was Chloe who struck first in her first over as the Wymeswold opener tried to pull one to the square leg boundary, only to pick out Jacob Taylor to be out for 0 with the score on 4.

Then in Chloe's next over she removed the number 3 batsman by getting him caught behind by Lewis Wales, also for 0, with the score on 6.

After 2 overs each for Matt and Chloe, Jacob Taylor and Zoe Howick came on to bowl. Both bowled well restricting the scoring and keeping it fairly tight despite not getting a wicket.

The Wymeswold opener, captain and keeper, batted really well and after hitting a 6 and then scoring a single, he retired on 25.

After Jacob T and Zoe had bowled 2 overs William Calthrop-Owen and Jacob Bates came on to bowl. With the score on 37 William picked up a wicket in his first over as he clean bowled the number 4 for 8.

Then in Jacob's first over he first had the number 6 caught by Lewis Wales and then got the number 5 out, this time caught by Matt North.

Debutant Sam Towers was then brought on and a mix up between the two batsman saw a direct hit from Matt North run out the number 8.

It was now 41 for 6 and Thrumpton were very much on top. Wymeswold though started to put a partnership together but good bowling from Will Hennessey, other debutant George Mayell and Ben Gill helped to keep the scoring rate down.

Over 15 saw Sam Towers come back on with the score on 59. He conceded a single off the first ball of the over but then after 3 dot balls he pitched the ball up to clean bowl the number 9 and pick up a wicket on debut, WELL DONE SAM!

2 overs later William C-O then picked up another wicked as he clean bowled he number 10 for 0, William finished with 2 for 2 from 2 overs, fantastic figures.

Once again tight bowling kept Wymeswold behind the scoring rate. Going into the last over they needed 22 to win, Chloe Towers was given the job of bowling the final over and on the 2nd ball had the number 11 caught by Matt North.

Then some great bowling saw only singles conceded, with Wymeswold finishing on 83 for 9 from their 20 overs, Chloe finished with 3 for 10 from 3 overs.

Overall it was a superb performance from all the players, well done to everyone and thanks to all the parents, grandparents and friends who came down to support the team. Once again the players have made their coaches very proud!

Next Sunday morning sees us travel to Melton Mowbray, all supporters are welcome.
