The Under 13's started the second part of their season with a trip to Rothley Park on Sunday hoping to build on a good first part of the season.

Sunday morning saw the U13's arrive at the very picturesque ground at Rothley Park CC. With almost all the Thrumpton players arrived at the ground and only 1 opposition player there, the coaches were starting to get worried.

Luckily though the opposition players slowly started to arrive.

With several players missing and regular captain Jack missing, Matt N was given the captaincy and the side also saw KWIK players George and Sam T return to the side.

Matt lost the toss though as Thrumpton were asked to bat first.

Dan O and Jacob T opened the batting but a mix up, after attempting a 2nd run that probably wasn't there, saw Jacob run out for just 1 with the score on 5.

Skipper Matt was in at 3 and built a good partnership with Dan as the pair put on 19 before Matt was out for 10.

Lewis was in next but he was caught first ball trying to smash one over the top.

Finn came in at 5 and supported by Dan, starting picking up the scoring rate. The pair put on 30 until Finn was finally caught for 14.

William C-O was next in and quickly got off the mark and then grew with confidence as his innings went on.

With Dan now in and seeing the ball well the scoring rate picked up nicely, along with some help from the extras from the Rothley Park bowlers.

Dan finally retired on 26 in the final over, a great knock that showed the importance of just staying there.

With Dan retiring that brought in Will H for the last 2 balls, he smashed the first one for 4 and then picked up a single off the last.

The Badgers had made 112 for 4 from 20 overs, a score that we all felt was competitive. William C-O finished on 13 not out and Will H 5 not out.

After a quick turnaround Thrumpton we soon back out on the field waiting for the opposition.

Having batted for 19.4 overs Dan was also asked to open the bowling as the skipper held himself back.

Dan got a wicket in his first over with Lewis taking a good catch behind the stumps.

Finn was asked to open from the other end and he too picked up a wicket as he bowled the number 3 and then in his next over bowled the number 4.

Finn completed his full 4 overs taking 2 wickets for 18 runs.

Dan also picked up another wicket as he bowled the number 5 batsman which reduced the opposition to 19 for 4.

The other Rothley Park opener though was batting really well and eventually retired for 25.

Matt brought himself on and picked up a wicket as he bowled the number 6 with the score on 58.

At the other end Jacob T and William C-o were given 2 overs each but couldn't get a breakthrough.

After 3 overs Matt replaced himself with George who picked up his first hardball wicket thanks to a good catch from Jacob T with the score on 69.

Matt now rotated his bowlers, making sure everyone got at least one over, and it was Ben G who picked up the next wicket as Matt himself took the catch to make it 78 for 7.

Matt then bowled the last over himself, removing the number 10 with his first ball, then the number 11 was caught by Finn from the next ball putting him on a hat trick.

The hat trick ball saw another chance go up but Finn couldn't hang on to it.

Rothley though could only finish on 87 for 9 from their 20 overs giving the badgers a victory by 25 runs.

It was another fantastic team performance and shows how much the guys are coming on as cricketers.

We now have a week off before our next game as we welcome Rothley Park B to the badger set.

Well done again guys!
