Sunday saw the U13's maintain their unbeaten start to the 2nd half of the season in the Leics & Rutland Youth Cricket League

Following the disappointment of no opposition the previos week the Under 13's returned to L&RYCL action with a trip to Queniborough on Sunday morning.

With only 11 players available due to holidays starting to kick in, the side contained Sam Towers playing up from KWIKs as well as Chloe Towers playing down from the U15's.

Skipper Jack Towers won the toss and chose to bat first.

Jack himself opened the innings alongside Daniel Oakley. Both batsman took on the bowling and kept scoring rate high as Thrumpton raced away at 10 runs per over.

Jack scored quickly while Dan did the important job of holding up an end.

After finding the boundary for the 4th time as well as clearing the ropes, Jack retired on 27.

Lewis Wales was in at 3 and carried on the momentum with Dan but with the score on 79 we lost our first wicket as Dan was clean bowled for 7, a score that doesn't really show how well Dan had batted.

Just 5 runs later Lewis was out as he was clean bowled for 14 after running 1 short to the previous ball.

It was 84 for 2 and Matt North and Finn Manners were both in and looked to keep on the fantastic scoring rate. Both found the boundary several times and were racing to see who would retire first.

That honour went to Matt who hit a 4 to retire on 28 and then in the following over Finn did exactly the same to also retire on 28.

Those retirements brought in Will Hennessey and Chloe Towers.

Will made good contact with his first ball and was off the mark straight away although just a few balls later he was clean bowled for just 1 with the score now on 159.

Jacob Taylor now joined Chloe in the middle and some fantastic running between these two saw the scoring rate continue to rise even if Jacob was take 3 steps to Chloe's 1!

The last ball of the innings saw Chloe run out for 15 with Jacob finishing on 14 not out.

Thrumpton had posted 193 for 4, their highest ever total for U13's, a fantastic effort with some very mature batting.

After a quick turnaround the badgers returned to the field looking to give their inexperienced bowlers some extra overs.

Sam Towers was given the honour of opening the bowling along with William Calthrop-Owen and both bowled very good opening spells.

The first wicket though came in the 5th over as a direct hit from William resulted in a run out and also a broken stump, a great piece of fielding.

Then in the next over Will Hennessey got a breakthrough as he bowled the other opening batsman to make in 39 for 2.

Then in his next over Will got the number 3 to drive at a ball and he was caught at slip with an incredible catch by Matthew North.

Then in same over, another great piece of fielding from Finn Manners saw the number 5 run out for 0 to make it 48 for 4 in 8 overs.

After good overs from both Chloe Towers and Jacob Taylor, the skipper brought himself on to bowl and immediately 2 wickets fell in his first over.

He firstly removed the number 6 by clean bowling him for 1 and then just 2 balls later Matthew North threw the ball in from the boundary to run out the number 7.

Matthew North then came on for the next over and he clean bowled the number4 batsman who had hung around for 5 runs.

Then in Jacks next over he removed the number 8 with an easy caught and bowled chance to make it 68 for 8 in the 13th over.

Daniel Oakley then came on and bowled a tight over before Finn Manners came on and picked up a wicket with Matthew North taking the catch.

Then to finish the game off William Calthrop-Owen came back on and took the final wicket to remove the number 10 as he was caught at short cover by Jacob Taylor.

Queniborough were 77 all out in 17.4 overs.

It was another complete performance from the U13's who continue to get better every single game.

Next Sunday see's us travel to Wymeswold for our last away game before finishing with two games at home.

Well done to everyone and thanks again to all the parents for their support!
