The Badger Under 13's had a thrilling last over Cup Quarter Final Win on Sunday morning against Frisby!

Sunday morning saw the Badger Under 13's take to the field for the first time this season with a cup quater final against Frisby.

The side saw several new faces take to the field but due to football matches and holiday we were only able to field 10 players.

Arriving at the ground the coaches were horrified to find that the newly arrived cows had got onto the outfield at the Badger Set, this ruined any plans of a warm up as thanks to some of the opposition parents we were able to finally remove the cows just before the scheduled start time.

New U13 captain Matt North won the toss and elected to field first. Matt himself open the bowling with some good pace and tested the opening batsman. Jacob Taylor opened at the other end and also challenged the opening batsman.

Frisby lost their first batsman in the second over as the number 2 pulled up with a hamstring injury and retired hurt with the score on just 1.

Then with the score on 5, Jacob got a breakthrough as he clean bowled the other opener for 0.

With the score on 14 a good piece of fielding from Max Baker saw Frisby lose their next wicket with a run out.

Both Matt and Jacob bowled through completing 4 overs each. Matt finished with 0 for 7 while Jacob 1 for 6. It really was two very good spells of tight bowling.

After the early overs the rest of the overs were shared around with everyone getting at least 1 over. Unfortunately some wayward balls saw plenty of wides called and Frisby started to build an innings which also saw their captain retire having scored 28.

With the score on 80 the next wicket fell as Matt North got another run out. Then with the last ball Lewis Wales, who had swapped with Matt North behind the stumps, got a wicket to see Frisby finish their innings on 90 for 5 from 20 overs.

The only downside was the 45 extras that we had given them. (Bowling practice at training it is then!)

However the side were still very confident of chasing down this total.

Jacob and Lewis opened the batting and looked very good until a miscommunication saw Jacob run out for 2 with the score on 6.

Matt now joined Lewis in the middle and put on a cracking partnership of 33 until Lewis was trapped LBW for 23.

Finn Manners now joined the skipper and they kept on pushing towards the target.

After scoring 25 Matt retired not out and Max Benson joined Finn at the crease with the score on 57.

Finn though was clean bowled and departed for just 2. Blaine Grewcock now walked out to the middle and along with Max looked to pick up runs quickly.

After hardly giving us any extras the Frisby bowlers lost some of their discipline and started to give us some extras, propelling us towards our victory target.

With the score on 72 though Blaine was clean bowled for 2 and then 10 runs later Max Benson was out for 3.

Max Baker was now in the middle along with Ben Gill but unfortunately a run out saw Ben run out for 0.

Joe Bailey, on debut, joined Max in the middle and looked to see the Badgers home.

Max's calling was superb and with the score on 89 after running a single to tie the game, Joe was unfortunately run out for a well played 5, trying to get the winning runs.

That wicket brought in the youngest member of the team, Jamie Hill who was on strike for the final over.

Thrumpton needed 1 run to win for the final 3 balls of the innings. Jamie defended the first ball back to the bowler but then, with the field in close, he hit one over the top to score the winning run.

A superb win with 1 ball to spare!

Well done to all the players who put in a fantastic effort and got a well deserved victory.

Just need to tighten up on those wides fellas.
