With several players on holiday and a couple of players ill, the Under 13's took on Rothley Park at the Badger set on Sunday morning with just 9 players.

KWIK cricket players Joseph Higgins and Thomas Davinson continued their run in the hardball team and a debut was given 8 year old Henry Higgins. There was however the return of captain Matthew North to the side.

Having lost the toss and being asked to bat first the skipper opened the innings alongside Lewis Wales. They got of to a decent start until Lewis was bowled for 6 by a beauty of a ball from the Rothley opening bowler.

Jacob Taylor joined Matthew in the middle and set about building a rock solid partnership. The skipper retiring on 25 from just 16 balls.

Zoe Howick and Blaine Grewcock unfortunately came and went for ducks but Harry James now joined Jacob Taylor and the pair but on a very solid partnership and move the scoreboard along nicely.

With just a couple of overs left Jacob also retired on 25 from a more steady 33 balls.

Joseph Higgins was the new batsman and it was the first time he had actually batted in a hardball game. Joe headed out into the middle and showed plenty of confidence as he stepped forward to play some lovely shots with Harry at the other end giving him plenty of encouragement.

Finally the Badgers closed their innings on 123 for 3 from 20 overs. Harry James finished on 23 not out and Joe was 3 not out at the other end.

After a quick turnaround the Badgers set about trying to get some early wickets.

Lewis Wales and Jacob Taylor opened the bowling and with the score on 17 Lewis got the breakthrough with Blaine Grewcock taking a superb catch low down at mid off.

Then just 7 runs later Lewis got another with the batsman edging behind to Matt North.

Then it was Jacob's turn to get a wicket as he bowled the Rothley opener to make it 26 for 3, a fantastic start for the Badgers.

Lewis finished his 4 overs taking 2 for 24 and Jacob just 1 for 10 from his 4 overs.

A brief partnership then started to form and moved the score onto 48 until a fantastic caught and bowled from Zoe Howick saw the Rothey number 5 depart.

Again another partnership started to form as all the bowlers were given at least an over with youngsters Tom Davinson, Joe Higgins and Henry Higgins all bowling well.

As we approached the final overs the skipper brought himself on to bowl and also Harry James returned at the bottom end.

The badgers got a breakthrough with Joseph Higgins running out the number 7 with the score on 90.

Then in the next over Harry got himself a wicket with Matt North taking the catch.

A nice tight final over from Harry then saw the Badgers over the line with Rothley finishing on 106 for 6 from their 20 overs, giving Thrumpton victory by 17 runs.

Another fantastic performance with a side that is just growing in confidence. Well done to all the players especially those that are taking the big step up. You are certainly making your coaches very proud!

That result made it 8 wins in a row for the Under 13's with 2 fixtures remaining.

Next Sunday sees our final Home fixture take place as we take on Egerton Park at the Badger set before finishing the season away at Syston.
