Following on from both the Badgers U17 and U13 teams in reaching the District Cup Semi Finals, the focus was on the U15's to see if they join them!

On a fine Wednesday evening the Thrumpton U15 s continued their run of good form with a resounding win over their opposition from Crown Hills.

However the evening did not get off to a good start as the visiting Crown Hills side all travelling from Leicester by minibus where seriously delayed by congestion on the M1 and then missed the turning off the A453 to Thrumpton village which apparently is actually shown as the turning for Kingston-on-Soar .

Luckily when arrived they were turned changed and ready to go, so with the subsequent loss of just over an hours time it was decided to reduce the game to a 10 over match.

With Thrumpton captain James Anstey electing to bat first and to open the batting himself with Jack Towers the first three overs passed fairly quietly as Crown Hills opening bowlers kept a good line and length and the “nuances” of the grass wicket were learnt.

From the 4th over the boundaries started to come with James and Jack having played themselves in. They started to hit boundaries of any loose bowling.

Their opening partnership came to end when Jack called for an ambitious run and both batsmen ended up colliding with each other mid wicket and Jack being run out for an excellent 31.

Lewis Wales was next and with his confidence high helped partner James to an unbeaten 37 with Thrumpton finishing on a total of 79 for the loss of only 1 wicket of which only 8 where scored from extras .

Thrumpton started the second half looking to put pressure on their opposition by getting early wickets and this they did with Dan Oakley bowling uphill from the hall end, taking two quick wickets in his first over.

The next over the pressure was further increased by Matt North who also got a wicket bowling Crown Hills No 4 batsman for a “Duck”.

With good all round fielding from the Thrumpton players “Won’t mention the dropped catches James” the Thrumpton 11 kept the pressure on their opposition as their run rate was falling ever further behind.

With a change of bowling a further two wickets quickly followed coming from that tricky pace of Sam Taylor, supported by very tidy overs from William Calthrop-Owen and Jack Sisson.

The last two overs where bowled by Jacob Taylor and Will Hennessey with Will despite getting off to a shaky start to his over finishing the final over with a further wicket leaving Crown Hills on 58 for 7.

This was a great all round performance from the Thrumpton team with plenty of team spirit and it was also good to see the game played competitively by both teams but also in the proper spirit of the game.

Many thanks to our scorer Lynne Priestley and to Jay the opposition Coach who diligently persisted in getting his team to the ground and to all who helped run the bar.

Our next U15s “Cup” game we will be playing Cropston at HOME which has to be played within the next two weeks and I will let you know the date of this game as soon as I have been able to agree a suitable date with the opposition.

Also as a reminder our first U15s “League” game is an AWAY game next Wednesday 20th against Barkby United whose ground is at Beeby Road, Barkby LE7 3QL.

Please let me know your availability as soon as possible.

Cheers
Burnsy
