3. Robert Arthur Pick 1935-2001

Thrumpton Cricket Club were very sorry at the loss of Bob Pick who had played for the club from the late 1950's to the early 1990's when his retirement from the game came from his doctors orders.

Bob was feared by many a cricketer, and held the wonderful achievement of taking over 100 wickets as well as scoring over 1000 runs in a season. He was a fast to medium bowler as well as being a top order batsman for Thrumpton. A captain for many years and a life member of the club. He had a particular penchant for striking the ball in the direction of a pair of trees, one of which was targeted so regularly it was dubbed "Picks Ash" by the owner and this description duly appeared on the maps of the area.

Even after his retirement from the game he still kept his interest in cricket. He became an umpire for the club as well as a loyal supporter who was always at Thrumpton events.

One of his proudest moments was when his only son Andrew became a professional to play cricket for Nottingham County Cricket Club. Bob followed Andrew all over the country watching him play cricket.

He could always remember his early days when you had to strap the bats and pads to the crossbar of your bike to go to play cricket away from home. When as a scorer or 12th man he would be sent home on his own after the match carrying as much cricket kit as possible because he was too young to go with the rest of the team to the pub.

So many people always found him to be such a friendly and honest person with a good word for everyone he met
